Lyrics

I've been working in the fields, all day baby
I've been working in the fields all day baby.
I've been toiling in the sun, but when I'm done,
I'm bringing it home.

You've been stiching your thread, all day baby
You've been stitching your thread, all day baby.
Work your fingers to the bone, but you're not alone,
Cause you're bringing it home.

Pull up a chair and we'll watch the evening draw in,
Pull up a chair and we'll watch the evening draw in.
And the cares of the day can all fade away,
When we're bringing it home.

Some people are content to always be discontent,
Some people are content to always be discontent.
But I count among my wealth my happiness and health
And I'm bringing it home.

You can travel the world from here to Timbuku
You can travel the world from here to Timbuku
But all I want to do is sit with you,
And bring it home.

Yea all I want to do is sit with you,
And bring it home.

Track Info

Having recorded "Green Fields" with 15 tracks (1 piano, 2 guitars, 4 vocals and 8 clapping) it's nice to do something a bit simpler (this is just 1 piano, 1 guitar and 1 vocal track). I did experiment with various bits of percussion but I prefer it without, the piano is played in sort of a lazy time anyway, which doesn't lend itself to being percussioned.

Before I wrote this I was trying to think of words for another song (never my strong suit) and was struggling. So, I tried something else instead. Blues is always good for the non-lyricist - the first two lines of each verse are the same and (in this case) the last line of every verse is the same. It cuts down on the creative effort nicely :) And so I had this written and mostly recorded in a couple of hours.
